CHASKA, MN — When President Trump endorsed Mike Lindell for Minnesota governor, he called the MyPillow founder “one of America’s greatest and most hard working Patriots.” And as the August 11 primary approaches, supporters say Lindell’s business record makes him not just the frontrunner, but arguably the most qualified man ever to seek the office — because there is no better training for running a state than running a pillow company.

“When people ask me how a pillow company qualifies a man to be governor, I ask them a question right back,” said campaign advisor Dale Hartwick, who has worked with Lindell for over a decade. “How does a law degree qualify a man to run a state? Mike has spent fifteen years in the business of supporting people’s heads. And the head is where every decision in government is made. Every governor in the history of this republic has relied on exactly one thing: a well-supported head.”

The logic, once explained, is difficult to dispute. A pillow and a state, Hartwick notes, have a great deal in common. Both need to be firm where it counts and soft where it matters. Both require constant maintenance to avoid developing lumps. Neither performs well when you cut corners on the inside.

“Mike Lindell has spent his entire career eliminating lumps,” Hartwick said. “Show me a governor who can say the same.”

"Critics call MyPillow a pillow company. Supporters call it a governance academy. Mike didn't just build a product — he built a system for supporting heads, and he's ready to scale it to 5.7 million of them."

Critics have pointed to the company’s financial challenges — more than $25 million in creditor claims, a lawsuit from FedEx over $9 million in unpaid shipping costs, and Lindell’s own testimony before a federal judge that he is “in ruins” with a combined $70 million in debt and ongoing garnishment by the IRS. Supporters, naturally, see this as the most valuable credential of all.

“Mike knows what it’s like when the numbers don’t work,” said campaign spokesperson Brenda Tolliver. “He has lived it. He has looked at a balance sheet and known what it feels like when everything is stacked against you. Do you know how many career politicians have ever missed a payroll in their lives? Zero. Mike has missed one. Maybe two. That is empathy. That is understanding. That is exactly the kind of governor Minnesota needs when the budget gets tough.”

Tolliver added that the FedEx lawsuit, in particular, demonstrates a quality rarely found in public office. “The man negotiated with the shipping-industrial complex and held his ground. That’s strength. That’s conviction. You don’t see that kind of backbone in the state senate.”

The campaign has also leaned on Lindell’s national profile, his “Buy Minnesota” economic plan, and his promise to cut the regulatory clutter that, in his words, “buries family operations the way a bad pillow buries a good night’s sleep.” His proposal to eliminate sales tax at the box-store level has been described by supporters as “the kind of bold thinking only a man who has stared down a margin report can produce.”

PILLOW-TO-POLICY SKILLS TRANSFER

  • Logistics: Moved millions of units; understands supply chains
  • Workforce: Managed hundreds of employees across shifts
  • Fiscal discipline: Has met a payroll — and missed one, which is how you learn
  • Debt management: Deeply familiar; an expert-level understanding of the IRS
  • Negotiation: Has held his ground against FedEx, a giant of American shipping
  • Customer service: Has personally stood behind his product in front of millions

Recent polling shows Lindell leading the Republican field with 35% support, a number that has grown steadily since the President’s endorsement. GOP voters, it seems, have recognized what the establishment has missed: that a man who has built something with his own hands — who has known both triumph and ruin, who has supported heads and faced down shippers — is exactly the kind of governor the Land of 10,000 Lakes deserves.

At press time, Lindell was preparing to release his full infrastructure plan, which he said would be modeled on his most successful product: “We’re going to support Minnesota’s roads the way we support Minnesota’s heads — firmly, evenly, and with a 60-night money-back guarantee if the state doesn’t sleep better.”
